    The Riding pony

  • About the breed

The term "Riding pony" is a horse show classification used to refer to certain types of ponies. Riding ponies were originally developed in the United Kingdom and are now bred all over the world. They were originally of Mountain and Moorland pony breeds, used for riding and hunting.

When pony classes were added to horse shows in the early 1920s, breeders began crossing Welsh and Dartmoor ponies with small Thoroughbred and Arabian horses. From the 1930s into the 1950s, Arabian blood was again introduced to improve stamina and refinement, which included one of the most influential sires, Naseel.

The general riding pony group has developed, aside from various British crossbreeds, into several standardized breeds, for example the Swedish Riding Pony, Australian Riding Pony, Belgian Riding Pony, German Riding Pony, poney français de Selle (developed in the 1970s in France, and said to be a more all-around, less-refined type), Pony of the Americas (developed in the USA in the 1950s), and four specific Welsh pony varieties.

The Riding ponies here at Décors are Swedish Riding ponies and are mostly used in the simulated ponyraces.

  • Namingthemes

All ponies born here (in other words born from one of our mares) get the suffix 'of Décorima'.

Some of our mares have themes with their names, like some have where the colts are named by the begining letter of their sire, or that 50% of the name come from the sire and the other 50% from the dam. Each of these themes - if any - will be listed on the mares individual pages. Names should be english sounding names - feel free to contact me if you want me to help you with suggestions.
Obviously - I cant force anyone to use my namingthemes, but it would make me happy if you did :) <3

    Décors Riding ponies

Here at Décors our Riding ponies are put in the two larger of the categorys we categorize ponies in Sweden. They have been placed here due to their imagined height if would they would have been real.

Category C: These ponies would in real life be about 130,1 - 140,0 cm at the withers.

Category D: These ponies would in real life be about 140,1 - 148,0 cm at the withers.

    Simulated Ponyracing

Our riding ponies are used in swedish simulated pony racing. Want to know what it is? Look at the link below!
