Base color

The Drabardi donkeys have only two base colors; black and red. All the rest are 'add-ons' ie modifiers to these two bases.

Black

Body as well as mane and tail are uniformly black. That is unless the donkey is sun-bleached black - when the donkey is exposed to the elements (sun especially) and sweating a lot, it might lose some of the rich pigments and the coat may even turn a bit red-tinted.

Red

Red is the donkey color that translates to chestnut when you speak of horse colors. The black pigment is suppressed and the donkey's body has a reddish color. Color range can vary from darker 'reds' to a lighter paler 'red'. The normal red color swatch shown is most common.
