Drabardi Hues

The special hues are one of the things that separate the Drabardi donkeys from normal ones. Even if most Drabardi donkeys these days only show a faint colored hue over their natural colors, breeders on the mainland work on breeding up the opacity of the hues so they will become stronger, just like they once were on the island. In the wild the strong hues are rare, and only seem to pop up now and then. The wild-born with strong hues are usually sold for high sums to the mainland.

The Drabardi hues range from 15-70% in opacity. The high opacity hues are very rare. To get a stronger hue in your foal you need to breed with a donkey that has a high opacity. For example, if your jenny has a 30% hue and you mate her with a jack with 40%, the resulting foal will have a hue ranging from 15-40%.

When listing the hue in the donkey's tracker you should describe it by the correct hue name, e.g. Kapila (not brown). Drabardis with Sonnasaster/Rajat/Sonali hues have a natural metallic (bronze/silver/gold) sheen to their coat, particularly noticeable in those with cream, champagne or other pale colors, similar to the Akhal-Teke horse.

To represent these in color swatches is difficult because they really appear metallic in life. Try to look at the metallic sheen of the Akhal-Teke horse for inspiration.

These show most clearly in pale coated Drabardis. The metallic sheen is best observed when the donkey is in its short summer coat.

Don't forget - The Drabardi hues range from 15-70% in opacity. The high opacity hues are very rare!
